Therapeutic applications

The utility of Seglins extends beyond the traditional areas where carbohydrate mimetics have known utility, and includes a broad range of target classes beyond those directly involving carbohydrates.

First generation iminosugars exerted their biological effects through the inhibition of carbohydrate processing enzymes such as glycoside hydrolases.

However, Seglins are poised to exploit the full impact of the advances made in glycobiology.  The range of new biochemical targets across many therapeutic areas is extensive and current efforts only begin to exploit what might be possible in the search for new drug leads.

Summit is actively investigating a number of therapeutic areas and has generated data that validates the broad potential utility of the Seglin platform against a number of targets including:

  • OGA for Alzheimer’s disease
  • NS3 helicase for hepatitis C
  • LPX for anti-bacterials
